CT Stroke Head Phantom KH (PH-77) — Early Detection Training for Acute Cerebral Stroke
The CT Stroke Head Phantom KH (Item No. PH-77, 5.3 kg) by Kyoto Kagaku, Japan is built specifically for study and training in the early detection of acute cerebral stroke — a time-critical diagnostic skill where faster, more accurate CT interpretation directly affects patient outcomes.
Realistic low-contrast lesion detection. Sphere-shaped simulated acute stroke lesions are embedded in the brain, and the phantom is specifically designed to support study and training in visualizing low-contrast lesions in the low energy range — the exact imaging challenge radiologists and technologists face when trying to catch early ischemic changes that aren’t yet clearly demarcated.
Multiple lesion sizes for realistic training variety. The phantom includes acute stroke lesions in two sizes: 20mm diameter (×2) and 30mm diameter (×2), giving students practice detecting lesions across a range of sizes rather than a single fixed target.
What’s included: head phantom, sample X-ray data (DVD), storage case, instruction manual.
Materials: urethane-based resin (soft tissue and skull), epoxy resin (cervical vertebrae C1–C7). Size: H33cm.
Training application: CT.
Developed under supervision of Hidetake Hara, Department of Radiology, School of Allied Health Sciences, Kitasato University.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What lesion sizes are included?
A: Two 20mm diameter and two 30mm diameter simulated acute stroke lesions, giving a realistic range of detection targets.
Q: Why does this phantom focus on low-contrast, low-energy imaging?
A: Early acute stroke lesions typically present with subtle, low-contrast changes that are challenging to detect. This phantom is specifically designed to train and evaluate performance on this challenging imaging scenario.
