CT ERF Phantom HIT (PH-55) — Low CNR Image Quality Evaluation for Iterative Reconstruction
The CT ERF Phantom HIT (Item No. PH-55, 4.5 kg) by Kyoto Kagaku, Japan is purpose-built to physically and quantitatively evaluate iteratively reconstructed images in low contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) areas — such as the abdomen — where traditional MTF-of-PSF evaluation methods are less useful.
A more accurate evaluation method for modern reconstruction techniques. The phantom uses edge spread function (ESF) to calculate MTF for low CNR images, giving institutions a way to properly assess the performance properties of iteratively reconstructed CT images under low-contrast conditions — an increasingly important QA need as more institutions adopt iterative reconstruction to reduce radiation dose.
What’s included: cylindrical container (200mm diameter), 5 measurement plates, rotation holder, fixture for the cylindrical container, angle adjustment holder, Phillips screwdriver, petroleum jelly, spare screws, storage case, instruction manual.
Materials: acrylic resin, polyurethane. Size: 200mm diameter × 250mm.
Optional part: angle adjustment holder, table-top type — for institutions that prefer a table-mounted setup over the standard configuration.
Training application: CT.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is this phantom needed for iterative reconstruction evaluation specifically?
A: Traditional MTF-of-PSF evaluation methods are less useful in low CNR areas like the abdomen. This phantom uses edge spread function (ESF) instead, giving more accurate performance evaluation for iteratively reconstructed images under these conditions.
Q: Is a table-top mounting option available?
A: Yes — an optional table-top type angle adjustment holder is available separately.
